📼 The video store is back (with a twist)

🦈 All that and a bag of … fish?

If you think your grocery bill is high, imagine what it costs to feed 300 pounds of seafood a week to the sharks at Mandalay Bay.

What's CITY Talking About

🇺🇲 Nevada Remembers Former Lt. Gov. Sue Wagner

Gov. Lombardo ordered flags to fly at half-staff for Sue Wagner, who died at 86 in Reno. The first woman elected lieutenant governor in Nevada was a pro-choice Republican — yes, we used to have those back in the day — although she only served one term. Lingering injuries from a 1990 campaign plane crash cut her political career short. In a sad coincidence, her husband, a Desert Research Institute physicist, died in another plane crash 10 years earlier, prompting Wagner to carry on his work as an environmental advocate. 🗓️ Cesar Chavez Demoted From Icon Status

Nevada formally recognizes Cesar Chavez Day on March 31, but Gov. Lombardo is reviewing options now that women have accused the late union leader of grooming and abusing them as young girls. At least one Nevada labor organization is dropping Chavez’s name from its annual celebrations. [New York Times/The Nevada Independent]

☀️ Hiking Trails Closed Due to Heat

Las Vegans are encouraged to limit time outdoors as we face an extreme heat warning. Don’t even think about hiking at Lake Mead. Nearby trails have been closed to the public as a precaution. [KVVU]

  • Nevada adopted new regulations less than two years ago to protect workers in the outdoor heat. The rules don't automatically activate at a specific temperature. Instead, it's up to the discretion of individual businesses. [KTNV]
  • Nonprofits are doing their best to assist those living outdoors in homeless encampments during the heatwave. [KSNV]

🏀 Aces Cash In on New WNBA Contract

After months of negotiations and the threat of a strike, the WNBA reached an agreement with the players union to quadruple pay and keep the 2026 season on track. That means our hometown champs, the Aces, will continue smashing everybody else without delay when the team hits the court for the May 9 season opener. [KSNV]

  • Cheer on the Aces this season at Tailgate Beach Club, a new sports-themed pool party, formerly known as Daylight at Mandalay Bay. [Las Vegas Weekly]
