🤔 Why are Strip escalators always broken?
April 24, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
🥨 It’s that time of year again!
I’ll be at Hofbräuhaus Saturday night, representing City Cast Las Vegas in a high-stakes pretzel-eating contest 👀

I’m competing on behalf of Forgotten Dogs Animal Rescue. I’ll do my best, but win or lose, please spare a donation for a great local volunteer group that fosters and finds forever homes for doggies in Las Vegas 🐶

What's CITY Talking About

🤔 Should We Take Arena Proposals Seriously?
That above photo was sent to us by the people pushing the idea of a new Diamond Arena. As Las Vegas explores an NBA franchise, how serious should we take these fancy renderings? I spoke to the arena’s representative and reveal some deets with City Cast Las Vegas on who’s behind the project during the latest Friday news roundup. We also talk about the effects of high fuel prices on Vegas tourism and a surprising trend among young Nevadans. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
👷 Safety Regulations for the Vegas Loop?
What could go wrong in an underground tunnel for Tesla shuttles? (Hint: a lot.) So after more than six years of construction, Clark County is looking to expand safety regulations for the project, addressing emergency evacuation measures, fire safety, first responder communications, and video systems to monitor traffic in real time. Better late than never I guess 🤷 [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
😕 Broken Escalators Remain a Strip Problem
There’s a reason escalators always seem to be broken at pedestrian overpasses and walkways on the Strip. Much of the machinery is outdated and it can be hard to track down replacement parts, especially when they’re from overseas. Regardless, Clark County is pooling money from the hotel room tax to fund repairs. [KSNV]
💧 River at Risk in Southern Nevada
And no, we’re not talking about the Colorado River (at least not this time). A new report names the Amargosa River among the ten most endangered in the country. If you haven’t noticed, it might be because much of it runs underground near areas like Beatty, Death Valley, and sunny Tecopa ☀️ [Public News Service]
- In addition to the dry climate, plans for solar farms and lithium mining threaten the area’s environment. The Amargosa Valley town board now wants Congress to designate a national conservation area around the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. [KVVU]

Once again, City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors get to shout out their favorite local people, places, and things.
📣 Sue M. wants to give a shoutout to the Friends of LVA Foundation, “who raise funds for programming at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts!”
📣 Daniel M. loves the second Nevada Brew Works location in Boca Park. “We need more neighborhood bars like this closer to Summerlin,” he says. “Good beer and food, and family friendly.”
