🛫 10 new nonstop flights from Vegas
May 6, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
🎡 The Southern Nevada State Fair opens today.
You probably just said, “Um, hey… what’s that?”
It’s a new five-day festival at the Rio. But you’d already know about it if you were a City Cast Las Vegas Neighbor 👀
Neighbors receive members-only emails every Monday afternoon that act as a cheat sheet and planning guide for the events happening in Las Vegas Valley throughout the week.
It’s just one perk that comes with being a City Cast Las Vegas Neighbor, including ad-free listening, invitations to members-only events, and much more!
You also get that limited-edition, hand-stiched, American-made Oxford Pennant we talked about yesterday 🚩
There are two more days left in our spring membership campaign. Your support helps keep the daily podcast and newsletter free for all.

What's CITY Talking About
🙁 Spirit's Closure Stings in Las Vegas
I’ll miss the cheap fares and seats that don’t recline, but the sudden closure of Spirit airlines also meant 999 employees lost work in Las Vegas, where the airline had 16 routes. [KLAS]
- Ripple effect: Without Spirit to compete with, other airlines are more likely to increase prices, which is already happening due to the oil crisis. The average domestic flight today is $365, compared to $295 a year ago. [The Wall Street Journal]
- Southwest is hoping to fill the gap with 10 new nonstop flights to and from Las Vegas. I’ll see you in Puerto Vallarta 🍹 [KVVU]
🐶 Rescued Beagles Coming to Town
Beagles are known for having a kind, docile temperament — and unfortunately, that makes the animals ideal subjects for laboratory testing in rough conditions. Volunteer groups just reached a deal to free 1,500 of the dogs from a breeding and research facility in Wisconsin — with up to 50 of them coming to Las Vegas under the care of the good people at the Southern Nevada Beagle Rescue Foundation. 🍸 The Mob Museum’s Offer You Can’t Refuse
The Mob Museum is moving forward with expansion plans, but reducing the size of an added structure so it doesn't overwhelm the original building, which was formerly a courtroom. In news that’s relevant to me, the museum plans to come up with a new “super secret” entrance to The Underground speakeasy and distillery to accommodate construction. [KTNV]
🤑 Rounding Up at the Sphere
Revenue at the Sphere is up 38% over the same time last year, beating Wall Street expectations while adding more than $386 million to the bottom line between January and March. “The Wizard of Oz” played a big role in that, now approaching 3 million tickets sold, totalling $370 million. [Deadline]
