🚑 The dark side of EDC
May 14, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
🏒 The new Professional Women’s Hockey League team we told you about yesterday was made official with an announcement at T-Mobile Arena that included some interesting uniform colors, but no mention of a name. (Feel free to share your suggestions 📬)
Regardless, it’s a great time to be a hockey fan in Vegas. If the Golden Knights beat the Ducks tonight, the team will reach the conference final for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup in 2023 👀

What's CITY Talking About
🎉 EDC Returns to Las Vegas, But at What Cost?
Road closures are already underway in preparation for the first-ever World Party Parade on the Strip tonight, which begins at 6 p.m. to celebrate the return of the Electric Daisy Carnival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. [NDOT]
- Victoria’s Voice Foundation is giving away naloxone (Narcan) and fentanyl strips to EDC attendees at the Westgate, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15, to help prevent drug overdoses at the festival. City Cast Las Vegas talks with the founder of the nonprofit about the dark side of EDC, incidents related to the event that go unreported, and how drug culture at EDC is changing. ⚖️ Smith’s Shooting Suspect Remains In Custody
The victims of a mid-day shooting at Smith’s were identified as Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas — a married couple that worked together at the grocery store. The man charged in the murders, Alejandro Estrada, is Amanda’s former husband and was in a dispute over unpaid child support involving two children, one of which had a birthday on the day of the shooting. 🤷 Can Vegas Reach a Limit on Fireworks?
Las Vegas is already planning eight straight Saturdays of fireworks to celebrate America's 250th birthday this summer, but why stop there? The Plaza is bringing back its weekly Friday night fireworks, from June 5 through Sept. 4. [KSNV]
🏈 Raiders Go Home
The Raiders are returning to the Bay Area for the first time since moving to Las Vegas six years ago. (Yes, it’s really been that long.) The team’s upcoming schedule for the 2025-2026 season will be released today, and it includes an “away” game against the San Francisco 49ers. The team will have first-round draft pick Fernando Mendoza on board as quarterback by then, so it’s kinda like bringing a hot date to the class reunion. [Raiders Wire]
