Hello, Vegas! It’s Bryan filling in again.
First, I owe you an apology for a mistake in Friday's newsletter. We inadvertently included old events instead of Sunday’s events. Sorry about that!
Thank you for letting me spend mornings with you this past week. As Arnold once said: I’ll be back. Now, onto the news.

What's CITY Talking About
🏆 Knights Fall Short in Stanley Cup Finals
The Carolina Hurricanes shut out the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 to win the Stanley Cup last night at the T-Mobile Arena, taking the series in six games. Let's salute the home team for turning around a rough season and giving our community plenty to cheer about. [Associated Press]
🇵🇭 Mubuhay, Vegas!
A new museum celebrating Filipino culture opened Friday in the heart of Vegas’ Filipino Town, Clark County’s newest cultural district. With exhibits exploring colonialism, indigenous roots, and traditions that have been a part of Filipino culture for centuries, it’s designed to be an eye-opening holistic view of Filipino culture and history. 💍 Marrying For Money (Literally)
A local woman took Vegas’ “marriage capital of the world” title a bit too literally, allegedly wedding multiple men in an elaborate immigration fraud scheme. Authorities say she raked in thousands of dollars by charging non-citizens to tie the knot so they could secure legal permanent residency. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
🏨 Vanderpump Rules the Strip
Reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump officially christened her grandest venture yet last week with a star-studded grand opening on the Strip. In a complete, 188-room transformation of the former Cromwell property, the newly minted Vanderpump Hotel features her signature “industrial romantic” aesthetic, alongside a lounge named after her late Pomeranian, Giggy. 🐱 Purr-fect Timing
Is your home missing a tiny, furry dictator? Henderson is making it cheaper than ever to adopt one. The city’s animal shelter is slashing adoption fees in half for cats and kittens through the end of the month to ease summer overcrowding. [Las Vegas Sun]
🇺🇸 Red, White, and ‘I Do’
As the United States of America gears up to celebrate its 250th birthday next month, Las Vegas wedding chapels are doing what they do best: rolling out themed wedding packages. Local venues are leaning hard into the nationwide America250 craze with star-spangled specials and red, white, and blue ceremonies. [KVVU]
- City Cast Last Vegas looks at America's upcoming milestone birthday, including what our region was up to when the Declaration of Independence was signed, how (and why) Nevada joined the United States, and the best Independence Day celebrations taking place in and around Las Vegas. Today's Big Picture

🏠 From Slots to Subdivisions
A few months after the Eastside Cannery hotel-casino was imploded, homebuilding giant Lennar Corp has revealed plans to turn the 29-acre site into a 279-home subdivision. It’s the latest domino to fall in a massive shift across the valley, where historic casino locations are being traded for more housing. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Gone too soon: Unlike historic Strip icons that faced the dynamite after decades of wear, the Eastside Cannery was a relative baby. Opened in 2008, it closed 12 years later when the pandemic hit and never reopened. It’s one of the youngest hotel-casinos in Vegas to be completely demolished. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- A “bit-of-a-downer”: Imploding a casino is a Vegas ritual, often marked by fireworks and celebrations of what’s coming next. That’s not what happened here. The owners robbed the public of the event by opting to do the demolition in the dead of night, with no public access. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
- A growing pattern: This isn’t an isolated flip. Southern Nevada is increasingly eyeing abandoned gaming footprints to help ease the housing crunch. Local officials have already approved a massive residential and commercial redevelopment of the old Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho sites in North Las Vegas. [KLAS]
