If you’re still hungry to celebrate, The LINQ promenade continues its holiday hot dog crawl today with four restaurants and bars serving their own limited-edition versions 🌭

What's CITY Talking About

🔌 Time to Pull the Plug on Data Centers?

Clark County commissioners will weigh the possibility of new regulations and a stricter approval process for new data centers during tomorrow’s meeting — but are expected to shy away from a full moratorium. [Nevada Independent]

  • Data centers are facing renewed local scrutiny after Switch received approval to expand its already massive Southwest complex — although the company claims to be an example of sustainability in the industry. [City Cast Las Vegas ✍️]
  • In something of a surprise, Boulder City voters won’t face a ballot measure this November on data centers after a petition failed to attract enough signatures. The city’s planning commission rejected plans for a data center in May following public opposition to the plan. [KTNV]
  • There are more than 70 data centers in Nevada. Where? Just look at this online tracking map. [Data Center Map]

👮 Which Security Guards Get to Be Armed?

Nevada's Private Investigators Licensing Board is drawing new scrutiny after lawmakers learned that some security guards have been carrying rifles and shotguns without clear legal authorization. The decision on whether security guards can seek armed certification is effectively decided by employers, drawing accusations of favoritism and discrimination against women and minorities. [Nevada Current]

🧨 Crackdown Started Early on Illegal Fireworks

Metro police wasted no time in getting serious about enforcing fireworks laws. Officers already confiscated more than 10 tons of illegal fireworks three days ahead of Independence Day. [KLAS]

🏘️ Lawmaker Eyes a Westside Revival

A new study could help determine grant funding for Jackson Avenue — a street once known as the “West Side Strip.” City Cast Las Vegas talks to Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong about the ongoing revitalization of the Historic Westside — and how all roads lead through Jackson Avenue, so to speak. 💍 Don’t hate. Congratulate!

We’re sending warm and fuzzy hugs to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who got hitched over the weekend. The couple celebrated their wedding by donating $26 million to 20 charities across the country. One of them — Feeding America — supports Three Square Food Bank right here in Southern Nevada and another, the ASPCA, funds a no-kill shelter with a Nevada chapter in our community.

On behalf of Las Vegas, thank you 🙏
