What's CITY Talking About
🚘 City Backs Down on Parking Hikes
Yes, it’s rare — but sometimes, you can fight City Hall and win. After local business owners spoke up, the City of Las Vegas has backtracked on plans to squeeze more parking fees out of drivers in the Arts District. A monthly parking pass for employees at a new garage was cut from $30 to $10 and a proposal to extend paid parking to midnight was scrapped. [KVVU]
💰 Nevada Updates Status with Facebook
Nevada will take in at least $178 million over 10 years, plus an immediate payment of $6 million, following a multi-state settlement with Meta over data sharing violations. The parent company of Facebook also promised to limit the activity of children on the platform. Whatever. Today's kids only know Facebook as a place where old people argue. [Nevada Independent]
- Prime example: The Nye County sheriff is apologizing for online comments about an inmate who died in custody. [KLAS]
🪟 Glass Panel Falls From the Fontainebleau
Nobody was hurt — and no, it didn’t happen because somebody was mad about how the Michelin Guide awards ceremony played out inside the theater. [KSNV]
🪴 Southern Nevada Is Short on Apartments
A new report says the Las Vegas Valley needs at least 5,000 new apartments a year to keep up with demand. But you may have noticed: those new complexes tend to be dominated by luxury designs and top-dollar rents. [Las Vegas News-Bureau]
- With that in mind, City Cast Las Vegas discusses the need for affordable housing in a growing market that’s tilting off balance. Today’s news roundup also discusses the literacy crisis in our community and some good news to kick off the weekend. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Save water where it matters most: outdoors
Over the past two decades, the community has collectively saved 200 billion gallons of water. Residents and businesses follow the mandatory seasonal watering schedule and replace grass with water smart landscaping. Golf courses operate within water budgets and utilize advanced irrigation technology. Just seven percent of the valley's water use is from resorts, which invest in water-efficient equipment. In addition, developers follow strict water-smart building codes inside and out.
Thank you, Southern Nevada! Keep conserving.

☝️ Correction …
In the newsletter version of our story about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we included the correct link to a local affiliate in the body of the text, but a website for an unrelated religious group accidentally generated when noting the source at the end.
We apologize for the confusion and encourage you to follow and support Storied Kids, which is working hard to supply young readers with books in Clark County 👍
