🤔 Is Vegas getting more dangerous?
September 8, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
👋 Welcome back!
Hope you had a great holiday weekend — and my condolences if you had to fill up on gas ⛽
After taking Labor Day off, we’re back, refreshed, and ready to go …

What's CITY Talking About
🚨 ICE Arrests Quietly Impact Las Vegas
ICE arrests aren’t in the news as much these days, but are quietly increasing throughout parts of the country, including right here in Nevada. More than 200 people were arrested over a two-week span over the summer, marking a record high for the agency in our state. [Nevada Independent]
- Las Vegas alone saw 1,135 ICE arrests in the first half of the year. Mayor Berkley believes immigration enforcement has contributed to the local drop in tourism. [KLAS]
🚔 A Deadly Year in Las Vegas
The murder toll for 2026 reached 73 in the Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s jurisdiction — and we’re only in early September so far. That marks an increase of more than 20% compared to the same period last year. Sheriff Kevin McMahill, who was reelected in the spring primary, boasted of a drop in homicides during his February State of the Department address. [KSNV]
👷 A Thousand New Jobs in Henderson
Time to update those resumes. We already told you about the new, state-of-the-art Haas machinery plant that’s bringing California jobs to Henderson — and it’s now hiring for more than 1,000 new positions too 👀 [KTNV]
🏒 🏈 It’s Sports Week in Las Vegas ‼️ 🏀
The Raiders play the first official game of the season on Sunday, the Knights kick off preseason action in less than two weeks, and the Aces are closing in on yet another WNBA championship. So it only makes sense that City Cast Las Vegas celebrates all the excitement with Sports Week, beginning with today’s episode on the different kinds of fans you see in Vegas. Our following three episodes this week will have a segment focusing on the impact of our top teams, plus all the regular news you come to expect from the City Cast crew. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
