👷 Historic home to be bulldozed?
September 24, 2026 · — Rob Kachelriess
🚗 Slater’s 50/50 on Lake Mead Boulevard is the first Las Vegas restaurant licensed to sell to-go alcohol orders after a new law was passed to allow it.
We already love the place for its peanut butter and jelly burgers 🍔

What's CITY Talking About

🎭 Recovery Continues for Carrot Top
Luxor canceled Carrot Top residency dates for the second weekend in a row after the comedian was hospitalized in a suicide attempt. The performer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was found by an employee by the pool at his Las Vegas home. A publicist reported that Thompson was conscious and breathing on his own while surrounded by loved ones earlier this week. [MGM Resorts/TMZ/USA Today]
- The incident coincides with litigation alleging sexual exploitation by a former opening act who in turn is being accused of extortion by Thompson’s lawyer. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- If you or anyone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, you can always call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. There's help available 24 hours a day. [988lifeline.org]
- City Cast Las Vegas discusses the latest details, including the questionable history of the person filing the suit and the media’s role in covering such a sensitive topic. Today’s news roundup also looks at the now-official sale of Caesars Entertainment and events we’re looking forward to this weekend. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
🍂 Festival Shooting Fears in Pahrump
There will be a greater security presence at the Pahrump Fall Festival and rodeo, which begins today and runs until Sunday at Petrack Park. Nye County police are investigating rumours of a planned shooting at the event and interviewing people who came forward with information, although deputies say there is no “solid information” or “first-hand knowledge” of a threat. [KTNV]
🏡 Luxury Developer Eyes Wayne Newton’s Estate
The 40-acre Casa de Shenandoah, which dates back to 1966 could become a Blue Heron luxury home community with more than 70 lots. The former estate of Wayne Newton is uniquely historic, but failed to find success as a tourist attraction. Blue Heron plans on keeping the lake. [KLAS]
🏜️ Millions Cut for Nevada Parks
The Department of the Interior is refusing to honor more than a hundred previously approved agreements with National Park Services, which translates to a loss of more than $5 million in Nevada alone. Lake Mead will lose $3.5 million for projects, including survey work and mapping of illegal roads. Nearby Death Valley is losing $1.3 million to help close abandoned mines. [Nevada Independent]
