What's CITY Talking About
🫣 Beware a Giant Penis on Fremont Street
A tourist from Illinois is suing The Nerd bar on Fremont Street, claiming injury after she was thrown off a giant mechanical bull penis. Thumbs up to the RJ for using the phrase “mounted the penis” in its coverage 👍 [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🏥 Hospital Makes Grave Mistake
Call your mother more often — so she knows you’re not dead. A woman is suing Southern Hills Medical Hospital after she called for records and was told her son was deceased. Instead of following up on the news, the woman believed her son was dead for three days before learning he was still alive. That’s the story, anyway. [KSNV]
📚 Do Schools Need Metal Detectors?
The Clark County School District is taking new security measures as parents discuss a possible need for metal detectors on campus. At least 14 guns have been confiscated on or near a local school since July, including one at Green Valley High School last week. [KTNV]
🚧 Work Begins on Forever One Memorial
A groundbreaking was held on Friday for the Forever One Memorial to honor the victims of the 2017 mass shooting on the Strip. An organizer tells City Cast Las Vegas that while funds are still needed, the memorial will be structured in phases. The first is fully funded and will open by next year’s anniversary with a Path of Remembrance, Ring of Remembrance (including large candles to represent the lives lost), Angel Wall, and Community Plaza. The project is still in the process of raising $6.5 million for a Tower of Light — and won’t begin construction on any phases until their respective funding is secure. [City Cast Las Vegas ✍️]

How to Celebrate Halloween in Las Vegas

Between resort fees and F1 construction, Las Vegas can be a scary place. That’s especially true as we head towards Halloween. Here’s how to celebrate the spooky holiday to the fullest.
👻 Haunted Attractions
Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15 is scary year-round, but especially fun during Halloween season with four haunted houses under one roof (including a seasonal popup featuring the adorably terrifying HamiKuma) with themed bars and dining.
A haunted house in a strip mall? Why not? You’ll find the Halloween Maze on the corner of Desert Inn and Durango with new costumes and storylines this year — and if the frights are a little much, you can opt for a less scary “No Boo” pass.
The creator of Bonnie Screams (R.I.P) brings House of Screams to Boulder City in the old Alien Store.
In a double-header, Las Vegas Haunts presents Hotel Fear (where there’s no vacancy and no peace) and Asylum, a twisted take on a mental institution at Meadows Mall.
No Freakling Bros. or Fright Dome this year 😢 Sorry.
🧙 Pop-Up Parks & Parties
HallOVeen at the Magical Forest is an annual tradition for Opportunity Village. The holiday theme park has mini-golf, carnival games, and other fun stuff — plus a beer garden for adults on weekends.
AREA15 is known as ScAREA15 on Halloween night, featuring a “Strange Circus” dance party throughout the Wall, Portal, and A-Lot with DJ Valentino Khan.
The adults-only Sin City Halloween Ball (formerly the Fetish & Fantasy Halloween Ball) definitely has a saucy side and is known for skimpy costumes. It’s back at Virgin Hotels on Nov. 1. Come by a day earlier and pregame during Thriller, a Halloween night party in 24 Oxford with Digital Underground.
The Fremont Street Experience comes alive (or at least will be “undead”) for a Downtown Celebration on Halloween, with costumes, themed tribute bands, and more.
The Parade of Mischief at Downtown Summerlin is free on Friday and Saturday nights at 6 p.m. throughout October.
😱 Spine-Tingling Entertainment
The Beverly Theater is screening scary movies all month long. It’s called The Wake, featuring 50 classics in 31 days, from Hollywood blockbusters to cult favorites. Each one is individually priced, but you can enjoy unlimited viewing with a $100 Slash Pass 🔪 🩸
I once named Ghost Stories with Kent Axell one of the best bang-for-your-buck shows in Las Vegas. It runs three nights a week at 1923 Prohibition Bar.
A Little Night Magic with V runs inside the hidden backroom at Capo's. Seating is limited to 25 people with a pay-what-you-feel policy at the end of the show.
The Majestic Repertory Theatre is advertising a “final encore” of SCREAM'D: An Unauthorized Musical Parody with dates scheduled between Oct. 1 and Nov. 21. (But is anything truly “final” in the horror genre, parody or not?) You can also hear audience ghost stories during Ghosted! by Roz Hernandez on Oct. 26.

Uncle Paulie’s sandwich shop, Yu Or Mi sushi, and Vesta Coffee Roasters are all out. The first two are no surprise. But the loss of Vesta bums me out.
Should we take bets on a Starbucks showing up? 🤔
